Landscaping Case Study – Garden Redesign

Introduction

Our client’s garden was typical of most properties situated on large new developments sites, with minimal landscape features and a small bland patio area that was not usable.

Our Client’s Aim

To create a larger patio space, add in some colour and try to lose the small square feel of the garden.

Our Proposal

  • Remove the existing three types of paving and replace with one type of paving throughout. The paving area was extended out into the garden to create a more useable space, with an added curve to break up the square shape of the garden.
  • The old shed was replaced with a new one and we changed the orientation of the shed so that it used less space and opened up the garden, making it feel much bigger than it previously did.
  • A raised bed was created along the back of the garden using railway sleepers which provided a feature. This was then planted up with an array of trees and shrubs to soften the garden and provide colour.
  • The old, poor-quality grass was removed and replaced with high-quality premium turf. As with most new build sites, the top soil was of very poor quality so this was removed to a depth of 150mm and replaced with good-quality top soil.
  • As part of the fence had recently been replaced and the remaining part was still sturdy, we just painted the fence to freshen it up.

Result

This was a very simple but effective garden design that met the clients needs in creating a larger more useable patio area, create a feature and providing some colour as well as making the garden feel larger and more inviting.
