Landscaping Case Study – large roundabout on the public highway

Landscape improvements to a large roundabout on the public highway.

Our client’s aim

This roundabout was constructed a year or so ago, due to a new housing development, but never landscaped. The roundabout consisted of bare earth, which had become full of unsightly weeds, and our client wanted to brighten it up with flowering shrubbery to make it more pleasing for the road users.

Our proposal

  • Spray off the existing weeds on the roundabout.
  • Cultivate and improve the soil in preparation for planting.
  • Plant up the area with 225 potted plants consisting of Lavender Hidcote, Rosa Rugosa, Escallonia, Elaeagnus pungens maculata and Photinia fraseri ‘Red Robin’.
  • Apply a finish layer of ornamental bark mulch to improve the aesthetics of the planting and help suppress future weed growth.

Result

A neat and tidily landscaped roundabout with a mixture of shrubs and colours to brighten up the highway. Note, as shrubs had only just been planted and they are not in flower, it doesn’t look as impressive as it will in the summer.
